Video game consoles have come a long way since the Magnavox Odyssey was first introduced in 1972. The Odyssey—the first of its kind sold commercially—was nothing more than a printed circuit board with a couple of diodes and transistors.

Flash forward four decades and you’ll see that the inside of video game consoles like the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 are as powerful and complex as the computer you’re reading this on.
