NBC's chief medical editor breaks Ebola quarantine, apologizes for causing an "episode"

NBC’s chief medical editor apparently doesn’t take the Ebola quarantine too seriously.

Dr. Nancy Snyderman, who was traveling in Liberia with a cameraman who tested positive for Ebola, initially agreed to remain in isolation for 21 days after returning to the United States. After a few days inside, cabin fever got the best of her; Snyderman was spotted out and about Princeton, New Jersey six days into her voluntary quarantine.

Local news site Planet Princeton followed tips from readers who claimed to have spotted the allegedly quarantined TV doctor sitting in the car at a local restaurant, stealthily disguised in dark sunglasses.

The Planet Princeton story prompted a response from Snyderman, which was read by Brian Williams on Monday’s “NBC Nightly News.” The Princeton Police and Health Department also reacted to the wandering doctor by imposing a mandatory quarantine for her and her NBC crew.

Snyderman’s statement read:
