Puff Daddy knows a thing or two about navigating the music business. Luckily for those trying to build music careers, he wants to help.

The REVOLT Music Conference in Miami brought together big names from all corners of the industry, including musicians like Jhene Aiko and The Game as well as execs like Russell Simmons and Bob Pittman. There were pool parties, live performances and panels where attendees were able to ask questions and learn from the pros.

Here are some highlights:

#AskDiddy

Diddy hosted a Q&A session on Saturday, taking questions from people in the audience and responding to tweets. He talked about what it’s like to live in L.A. (trafficky), what to do to build your brand (wake up early) and how success can change you (you become an asshole – see below).


Up-and-comer Dej Loaf performs live

Detroit-rapper Dej Loaf, whose recent single “Try Me” caught the ear of ultimate influencer Drake and got the remix treatment from Wiz Khalifa, hung poolside with Diddy and performed at the Fontainebleau pool party.

Russell Simmons shares his keys to success

Russell Simmons, legendary entrepreneur and fixture in the biz, delivered the keynote speech on Friday. He kicked things off with breathing exercises, telling the crowd, “presence is the only thing you should be seeking.”


Jeremih performs “Birthday Sex”

Jeremih joined Travis Scott on the Ocean Lawn for an intimate live performance.

Note: this highlight list is not in order of importance, because if it were, the oceanside “Birthday Sex” performance would be #1.

Ma$e “runs up” on Charlamagne tha God

According to the rumors, rapper-turned-pastor Ma$e ran up on Charlamagne tha God, a well-known radio host, during the conference. Charlamagne took to Twitter to clear things up with a back-handed tweet, then invited Ma$e to join him on his radio show to talk things out.
