Solange Attacks Jay Z In An Elevator After the Met Gala

In a security video released by TMZ, Solange physically attacked Jay Z, swinging at him and kicking him after being restrained by someone who appears to be a bodyguard.

The attack, which took place after the Met Gala last week, occurred in an elevator at the Standard Hotel, the hotel that is also the home of Le Bain, the trendy Meatpacking club where people have tried to sell krokodil.

UPDATE: 3:28 p.m.: Here’s the full 3:32-minute video. If you go to right after the 3-minute mark, as Beyonce leaves the elevator, Solange goes in for some more throws. Seriously guys what was this fight about?

Here’s the full video, which is not even a minute long. Despite being held back by a pretty hefty bodyguard, Solange gets a pretty impressive kick in at 39 seconds. Beyonce, located in the lower left corner of the screen, appears to try and help break things up at the end of the altercation.

Of course, for those of you that remember Solange’s outfit from the Met Gala, remember she was wearing super slinky Stuart Weitzman stilettos. It’s unclear how beneficial said stilettos are to kicking in fights. On the one hand, super-pointy stiletto heels could do a lot of damage. But on the other hand, Solange’s toes and completely exposed, leaving her toes vulnerable to a multitude of injuries.

The cause of the fight is not yet known. TMZ reports that after the fight, as the three left the Standard, “all three walked out of the building together—Solange look[ed] pissed—but while Bey and Solange [got] in one car … security walk[ed] Jay to a different one.”

Update 3:24 p.m: The Standard Hotel, where the fight took place, released the following statement to The Grio:

“We are shocked and disappointed that there was a clear breach of our security system and the confidentiality that we count on providing our guests. We are investigating with the utmost urgency the circumstances surrounding the situation and, as is our customary practice, will discipline and prosecute the individuals involved to our fullest capacity.”
