Sochi Day 16: USA Finishes Second in Medal Count

Sochi is nine hours ahead of the eastern United States—12 hours ahead for the people out west—making it difficult for the average Olympic viewer to catch a lot of the events live.

Today marked the last day of competition. Let’s catch you up on what happened and the final medal count.

What You Missed

Bobsleigh Four-man: The USA’s last medal. The American team of Steven Holcomb, Christopher Fogt, Steven Langton and Curtis Tomasevicz earned bronze medals after four solid runs, bringing the U.S. medal total to 28. Slightly ahead of them were Russia and Latvia, winning gold and silver, respectively.

Men’s Ice Hockey: To the chagrin of many Americans, Canada handily defeated Sweden in the final today 3-0. The Canadians dictated the flow of play from beginning to end and used goals from Jonathon Toews, Sidney Crosby and Chris Kunitz on their way to gold medals. Canada has now achieved gold in three of the last four Olympics.
